Whether with your loved one, or treating yourself…..spa.it.up! And Phnom Penh is the perfect place to do it! So I figure I’d pair this post I was planning with the holiday people love to hate or just plain love. Killing two lovebirds with 1 hot stone, one could say?
Phnom Penh is the perfect place to get relaxed, re-energized and just escape. Especially for those working here to strengthen health systems, build capacity or tackle corruption and human trafficking, a spa day can be the most welcomed luxury ever. And for anyone coming to visit (please come!) soon or already in town, here are some amazing sanctuaries where you, or you and your darling can sneak away to together! The best part is – all of these places offer spaces for pairs!
Spa Bliss, House #29, Street 240, Phnom Penh
Spa Bliss is by far probably one of the best places to just get soothed in Phnom Penh. At affordable prices (seriously – go and compare them to the West!), Spa Bliss offers a huge number of soothing treatments that are all about renewal. Where else can you get a 1-hour aromatherapy massage, body scrub and herbal steam for $42? The services offered are quality. The staff are some of the best in Phnom Penh and the setting in an old French colonial home are incredibly perfect. While prices can be a bit higher ($22 for an Essence of Bliss massage, or $10 for a pedicure), it’s all about the quality. And speaking of quality – you must check out their line of clothing, accessories and home decor. The textiles, sourced all over southeast Asia, are incredibly beautiful! Especially their quilts! Perfect to sunny-up a room!
Aziadée Tea Spa and Beauty, House #16AB, Street 282, Phnom Penh
I had the luck of living across the street from this retreat. When you walk in, you’re literally transported. I love the dark woods that are part of all the rooms and just how peaceful it is. Which makes it the perfect place for a massage – and this is definitely when Aziadée specializes in. They offer a great selection – from my standard full-body Thai Massage, to a 100-point Indian Head Massage and Hot Oil and Aromatherapy massages, which you can all get as a pair. The Traditional Thai Full Body Massage is wonderful. First they bathe your wary feet in perfect warm scented water. And then, for 1 hour or 90 minutes, they massage your body literally from your toes to your head! (that’s why they really wash your feet well). I used to get one here regularly, then walk across the way and straight into my bed for a perfect night of slumber. That’s how good it can be! And there really is nothing like having a small Asian woman walking on your back.
Nail Bar @ Friends n’ Stuff, House #215, Street 19, Phnom Penh
And of course, I have to mention my favourite social enterprise. I really like supporting Friends-International – the work they do behind the scenes and in front of the house are just amazing. In addition to their delish restos, and damn cool clothing and accessories lines, they also have a Nail Bar! Mith Samlanh is the partner local organization to Friends which helps get kids off the street, educates them and prepares them with skills to enter the workforce with. And the Nail Bar @ the Friends n’ Stuff store provides a great training ground for the students to show off their skill! And they are great! For $5, you can get a great manicure or pedicure, using OPI polish, and you might get a nice foot or hand massage too if the students are looking to practice. Or, for $4 you can get a 45 minute hand or foot massage. I had 4 girls working on my feet last week! It was just amazing and I love that getting my feet pretty can support a great cause too.
