films to fall in love with….

Al Ringling, Baraboo, by Hiroshi Sugimoto, 1995

I caught these trailers this morning and very quickly, I forgot about the mozzies who were tormenting me last night!  Firstly – there’s magic and whimsy from Wes Anderson and his usual cadre of performers like Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman in Moonrise Kingdom; but this time supplemented with some excellent kid actors!  I just love the art direction in Wes Anderson’s films! I can’t wait for this one to come out on May 25th (US limited)!

And on the other side of the love spectrum is a story actually about love – a woman for her country and a man for that woman.  Luc Besson’s The Lady looks absolutely stunning and its story just downright inspiring and heartwrenching. Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis make for an amazing Aung San Suu Kyi and her husband, Dr. Michael Aris. And it seems from the trailer that Luc Besson does justice to the movement in Myanmar. Can’t wait to see this one! (Released Feb 17 in the USA and already out in the UK)
