a seasonal tune-up…

Oh boy – autumn has totally descended upon continental Europe.  It’s been freezing and overcast lately and I’m looking for some inspiration while we look for work that’s just as full of hope, passion and energy!  Then I found Happenstance, an excellent California-based blogger who keeps hers’ full of Cali-colour and bounce; she said it best about the blogosphere – “Blogs definitely keep you positive and are a reminder of what is good, fun and inspiring.” So while we’re not located in as sunny and light beach-side climes as Happenstance is, I thought I’d bring a more seasonal tune-up with some awesome remixes!  Hopefully they’ll put a little bit of a hop in your step while we all adjust to this weather!

First up for grabs is the remix album that Death Cab for Cutie is about to put out on Nov 22.  While I’m not the biggest fan of Death Cab (they can be a tad too emo for me), these remixes have definitely won me over and are perfect as a pick me up to this weather. Especially Hot Chip/2 Bears remix of You Are a Tourist. Check it out!

Death Cab For Cutie – tracks from their Keys and Codes Remix EP, due out Nov 22, 2011.

Second up is a remix of new hot thing Lana Del Rey’s Video Games.  Unaltered, this song is amazing – Lana Del Rey just sings her heart out – but sometimes you just want a pick-me-up.  So why not a dose of house-beats from Joy Orbison?

And finally…remember the XX? Yeah, I know, SO 2 years ago!  But they are just so incredibly perfect for this weather. And why not revamp them with different artists covering and covering their soul-soaked ballads.  Stereogum, amazing as usual, has put together their top 10 list of XX-covers, including none other than Shakira!  Check it out and here’s my fave…

Matthew Dear – VCR (The XX Remix)

Enjoy the tunes! Especially with a cuppa cider!

PS – Not a remix but Real Estate is an amazing new band that’s also just perfect for the fall.  Their catchy gems are everything you want from a autumn guitar band – gentle vocals, soft guitar.  Can’t you just feel the sunlight glimmering through those red leaves? Enjoy!
